What the number can tell you, and what it can't
Place a landline to its town, name the network a mobile prefix was issued to, and tell you whether a range is standard rate, free or premium. All from Ofcom's public register.
Name the person who called, or prove the call really came from that number. Caller ID can be faked, and sites promising names are guessing or scraping.
The caller's request, judged on its own. Money, PINs, one-time codes or remote access mean hang up, whatever the number said. The 4-step check.
Why no user reports?
Plenty of sites let anyone tag any number as a scammer. Some tags are accurate. Others are wrong numbers, grudges or spam, and an innocent small business wears the label for years. We publish what Ofcom's register actually records and we're straight about its limits. Less gossip, more fact.
